To neatly conceal the washing machine, Jan took matters into his own hands and built a custom enclosure. He measured the dimensions himself and ordered the cut MDF panels online. The laundry room looks tidy again!

Description by Jan

From the living room, we have a direct view into the utility room with the washing machine and dryer. Because the intermediate door cannot always be closed due to the food and water bowl for the dog. By creating this frame with extra cabinet space, the view has become much neater.

How I made this project

First, I determined the framing for the washing machine and dryer. Then, I assessed if a door between the two appliances would be useful. Conclusion: yes, for easy access to laundry detergent. Next, I measured the space above the appliances for extra storage behind two doors. I ensured ventilation space was left at the back for the appliances. I ordered wood online, rough timber (uprights and crosspieces), hinges, and hardware from a hardware store. Upon arrival, I further customized everything and hung the doors. Then, I painted everything, including the entire utility room, before screwing and gluing everything together. Tip: the narrow door and crosspieces can be easily removed (a few screws) to facilitate moving appliances in and out.

Dimensions of my DIY project

160.0 x 160.0 x 60.0 cm. No working drawing because it's more about the concept, and every space is different.
