Tips from Bas
If you order a custom-made cabinet that reaches your ceiling, be sure to take into account any height difference between your floor and ceiling. Mounting the last horizontal shelf was fiddly work, but I managed it in the end! And it certainly looks extra sleek when the cabinet reaches the ceiling. Furthermore, I painted everything with two coats to achieve a really nice, opaque finish. In the open compartments, I would recommend sealing the seams with acrylic sealant; it provides a slightly cleaner finish and makes painting easier. Additionally, I painted all the doors and supports on unfolded AH crates so that I could paint the top and the edges at the same time. A handy tip, if I do say so myself!
Tips in brief:
- You can hammer the top shelf into place using a pull bar/tap bar (be careful not to damage it).
- Use a plastic hammer
- Seal the seams of the open section of the cabinet with acrylic sealant.
- Degrease thoroughly beforehand and lightly sand between coat 1 and 2 if necessary.
- Write the door article codes on painter's tape and stick it in the hinge recess before painting; that way, you will know which door belongs to which number after painting.
- AH crates are a handy way to paint the top and bottom and get the edges at the same time.
