In this DIY project, Pieter shares his experience with online customizing, assembling, and painting his custom TOSIZE Furniture cabinet. He chose MDF so he could paint the cabinet in the identical black color (RAL 9004). The result is a beautiful outcome to be proud of.

In mid-January 2023, we customized a TOSIZE Furniture compartmentalized cabinet using the configurator tool on the website. Configuring is self-explanatory, and within minutes, you determine your desired layout. In our case, it's a compartmentalized cabinet measuring 215 x 192 x 40 cm, made of 30mm thick MDF sheet material, with a total of 12 compartments and 3 cabinet spaces.

How I made this project

Upon delivery, neatly placed on a disposable pallet right up to the front door, we laid out all the sheet material in the living room. Each sheet is labeled with a handy sticker with unique numbering. From the supplied blueprint, every part can be traced back, making it nearly impossible to assemble the cabinet parts in the wrong order. The entire assembly of the cabinet was completed in a good 1.5 hours and is essentially achievable for anyone with minimal DIY experience within this timeframe. A tip from us is to hammer the wooden "dowels" used to connect the MDF sheets together as far as possible into the holes (with a rubber mallet). This prevents gaps from forming between the sheets. Once the cabinet was assembled, we primed it with primer paint, in our case, in RAL9004 color. We chose this color consciously because we had previously painted the stairs with it and the TV cabinet is also in this color. Priming and painting are not our favorite activities, but they are part of the process ;). The entire cabinet (except the back) was primed twice with a paint roller and then painted twice with paint. We opted for the Sikkens brand, specifically the Rubbol BL variant, which is durable and scratch-resistant. Finally, once everything had received a double primer and paint layer, we mounted the cabinet doors as the last step. This is also a fairly simple task because the hinge holes are already perfectly routed. So, you can hardly mount it incorrectly, which is a real advantage of the way this webshop delivers its products, and we were pleasantly surprised by it. The cabinet has been proudly displayed in our living room for some time now, and although we still need to slowly fill it with items, that will come together over time. Overall, very satisfied with this purchase, and because we've put in quite a few hours (especially with painting), we're also extra proud of the end result.
