Leonoor has made beautiful custom-made cabinet doors using birch plywood cut to size. The base of the cabinet is an Ikea Pax cabinet. They have turned out to be gorgeous custom-made cabinet doors!
Description by Leonoor
In a children's room, I installed a PAX cabinet (IKEA) under a sloping wall. For this PAX cabinet, I wanted beautiful doors and not ordinary ones. That's why I installed custom-cut birch plywood doors here.
How I Made This Project
- Cut the Pax cabinet to size and placed it under the sloping roof
- Measured the doors on-site (I knew the width of the IKEA cabinet, but I had to measure the sloping roof)
- Created a drawing of the doors (in Illustrator) to check if the measurements were correct. Because the sloping top line of the three doors had to continue smoothly.
- Ordered the doors based on the drawing
- Then attached the hinges (standard IKEA hinges)
- Determined the exact location of the hinges by measuring them on another Pax cabinet in the house. The assembly instructions are often included with the hinges you buy.
- Drilled a hole corresponding to the hinges and then attached the hinges to the door.
- Then the doors could be attached to the Pax cabinet.
- I did not apply any stain to the cabinet because I like the color now. Hopefully, it won't discolor too much!
