An Eye-catcher in the Living Room

When you enter Nicoline's living room, you're immediately greeted by a beautiful shelving unit that's not only functional but also a real eye-catcher. This shelving unit not only provides a tidy space for the television and other accessories but also adds an elegant touch to the room.

Construction and Materials

The cabinet is constructed from MDF Natural, a durable and versatile material perfect for these kinds of bespoke solutions. The use of the LAB Interior Lacquer | MRS. WOOL NO. 108 - Satin colour gives the cabinet a refined finish that is subtle yet striking.

Why This Cabinet Comes Into Its Perfection

The natural light and the space surrounding the cabinet allow this piece to truly shine. Elias in the living room was carefully chosen so that it not only appears spacious but also feels like an integral part of the interior.

Unique Features

With solid cabinets underneath and open shelves above, the cabinet offers an ideal mix of storage and display. Add an integrated TV compartment, and you have not only an organized but also a stylish setup.

Tips from Nicoline

To design our cabinet, I first taped all the compartments to the wall with masking tape. This way, you can clearly see how the finished product will look and easily make adjustments. For our compartment cabinet, we used three IKEA BESTA base units with Hanviken doors. We raised these by placing them on wooden posts from the hardware store. This frame is made with the posts all around and two in the middle for stability. By raising it, we could also add a skirting board. The skirting board we used is 9 cm high. The BESTA cabinets have adjustable feet, allowing you to level them and create space for the skirting board. We placed our custom-cut cabinet on top of these cabinets. The cabinet was very easy to assemble. All the shelves were labeled, and a clear drawing was included. Because we had base cabinets that protruded more, we ordered a larger shelf of the same size, wider than the one that would be included in the design. Op Maat Zagen recommended this. We drilled the same holes in this wider plank, which would then completely cover the base cabinets, as in the pre-drilled plank from Op Maat Zagen. This made it easy to do. After the cabinet was assembled, we closed the gap between the ceiling and the cabinet with a simple plank from the hardware store. This had to be specifically measured and sawn. We filled the gap between the cabinets with wood filler. The next day, we sanded it. We did the same process with all the plank transitions in the Op Maat Zagen cabinet. This way, you no longer see any seams. We sawed holes in the cabinet for the cables for the TV, speakers, and lamp. A power outlet is integrated into the cabinets below, which contains all the electrical wiring. We then sanded the IKEA cabinets and cleaned everything thoroughly with St. Marc cleaner. We primed the cabinet once and then varnished it twice with interior paint. After this was dry, we sealed the transition between the top plank and the ceiling. After that, the TV could be hung! All that's left is the soundbar.
